I will attend CHEST 2006 which will start on Oct 21, 2006 at Salt Lake City, Utah.
My presentation. from - http://www.chestnet.org/CHEST/program/simulation.php(1) Ultrasonography Problem-Based Exercises and Interpretation
Professional Facilitator Paul H. Mayo, MD, FCCP, New Rochelle, NY
Summary Ultrasonography has widespread application in pulmonary and critical care medicine. It allows the clinician to immediately assess important components of the cardiopulmonary status of the unstable patient with hemodynamic or respiratory failure. It permits prompt diagnosis of many life-threatening disorders. It allows ongoing assessment of the effect of therapy, and it can be used for guidance in a variety of interventional procedures. During Simulation Center hours, there will be an ongoing demonstration of ultrasonography in the simulation room. Expert level faculty will rotate on a regular basis to provide hands-on demonstration and training to conference attendees who are interested in the field. The participant should expect to use a high quality ultrasound machine with a human model under the direct supervision of a skilled physician ultrasonographer. All levels of training background are welcome to participate. Entry level ultrasonographers are welcome, as the enthusiastic faculty seeks to develop interest in ultrasound among ACCP members.
Objectives
- Familiarize the participant with the operation of the ultrasound machine and scanning strategy.
- Develop faculty in ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation.
- Review the clinical application of ultrasound to pulmonary and critical care medicine.
(2) Pulmonary Care Simulation

SummaryEndotracheal intubation of the hemodynamically unstable patient with severe respiratory failure is a challenging and dangerous procedure. The intensivist increases the safety of the procedure by utilizing a comprehensive standard protocol, crew resource management with team approach, and emphasis on maintaining physiologic function of the patient throughout the procedure. Scenario-based training using a computerized patient simulator is an effective tool in teaching the intubation team safe strategy for this high risk procedure. Participants in this simulation training exercise should expect to improve their skill set while training with a sophisticated patient simulator and an experienced training team.
Objectives
- Develop and refine ability to perform the complex process of providing airway support to the hemodynamically unstable patient with severe respiratory failure.
- Receive training in crew resource management of an intubation team, and then use this training while running an airway team.
- Learn about scenario design, simulator function, and debriefing methods by experiencing intensive, scenario-based training with a computerized patient simulator.
